Severe plague in Constantinopel, Adrianopel and Kallipolis and surroundings with tens of thousands of deaths

Text originalOriginal text

In the summer of the same year, the plague overwhelmed Constantinople, Adrianople, Kallipolis, and the immediate castles, towns, and villages. No outbreak of such intensity had occurred for many years. They say that tens of thousands, not merely thousands, of human beings perished; among the casualties was the daughter of the despot [Lord Demetrios].
